Southern California Droid builders invaded the Anaheim GardenWalk and Factory Xtreme Saturday evening. Safely interacting with guests, causing mischief and making smiles!

Southern California Droid Builders invaded the Anaheim Garden Walk and Factory Xtreme ! This was a bit of a last minute romp but we were able to catch a lot of innocent bystanders by surprise ! The droids romped around the garden walk outside the Factory Xtreme- dancing to the music, playing in the fog machines and mingling with guests. It was great to get out an about and have some fun with our fellow builders and droids! Visitors had a awesome time taking pictures and interacting with the droids outdoors.

For us Scum Balls, this was our 50th Troop!!!!! R2-2Ds 1st Troop after his completion last April- right when the COVID-19 pandemic started hitting. He has been gathering dust for over a year! Always interesting on a droids first outing to see what is going to go wrong :) 2D did amazingly well! A greeblie fail here and there , some loose leg bolts but he took the rough terrain like a champ!! A job well done to Krankmeister! You find find some R2-2D details on his home page.

All the droids performed awesomely. BB-8 took some brave steps out onto the rough stoneway and did fairly well with his balancing. He lost his head here and there :)

50 TROOPS !

Desert Scum & Droids celebrated their 50th Troop this past Saturday March 6, 2021!

We also celebrated R2-2Ds 1st troop out in the world since he was completed April 2020 !

What a crazy adventure it has been! The droids have been to fundraisers/charities , school science nights, comic cons, baseball games, and hockey games all over Southern California the past few years. We are eager to get back in the swing- encouraging building, creative enthusiasm and making them smiles!

Can’t wait for the next 50 !

R2-2D R4 Dome

R2-2D now has a pretty rad alternate dome tanks to the amazing Mr. Baddeley ! Please check out his Patreon for awesome 3D files to print and make your own custom droid etc. !!!!! Micahel Baddeley Patreon

too-dees R4 dome is 3d printed on Tevo Tarantula 200x200. Dome was cut ad then re-assembled after print. Finishing work done by Ardy Jo and paint app. by Krank :)

R2-2D COMPLETED

R2-2D completed

RD-2Ds tear-down and partial conversion to R2-2D has been completed ! Well assembled and operational at least. Any droid builder knows a droid is never completed …

Too-dee is sitting on a wood frame, all steel feet, aluminium dome & skins and rocking on new Q85 Brushless 4WD drive system !!

All parts as provided by the mighty R2 Droid Builders Club members at www.astromech.net or via Facebook groups such as Mr. Baddeley Printed Droid group.

While it may seem to have taken 7 months to complete too-dee, the dome was already completed (slight re-wiring) and had most of the parts to assemble and lets not forget the knowledge and experience that came from RD-2D & RD-QD !

Unfortunately it looks like too-dee will not be able to meet any new friends for a few months dues to COVID-19. But he will be ready to roll when this blows over!

It was a beautiful day in So Cal and the droids spent about half the time outside mingling with Cookie Con guests and passer byers with the Star Cars.

Per usual, the droids spread joy and cheer throughout the land ! They also got to meet Celebrity Pastry Chef Ron Ben Israel and ventriloquist, stand up comedian Jeff Dunham !
